Great Schools Need Great Neighbours.
LocaeHubs is the ongoing school-community layer of the One Big Change model: a trusted local community of schools that continue learning and improving together after the first programme ends.
A Hub is not the programme. It is what the programme leaves behind.
- 01
Change Lens
Helps a school understand its implementation priority.
- 02
One Big Change
Organises the improvement work and the relevant support around it.
- 03
Expert / implementation support
Helps the school act on the priority it has identified.
- 04
LocaeHubs
Gives the school an ongoing local peer community, so implementation, evidence and learning continue beyond the initial programme.
A small, trusted community of schools
A Hub is roughly ten neighbouring schools working together around improvement and implementation. It is a structured school-improvement community, not a directory of organisations and not an open social network.
- Meet regularly as a local community of schools.
- Share implementation experience, not only finished results.
- Exchange resources, tools and practice between schools.
- Learn from evidence gathered across the Hub.
- Support neighbouring schools working on similar priorities.
- Access relevant experts and partners when the Hub needs them.
- Build local capability, including train-the-trainer progression.
- Contribute to the shared evidence base as the work develops.
Continuity, not a new start
A school reaches a Hub through the work it has already done: the priority it named, the baseline it established, and the implementation and evidence that followed.
- Step 1
Priority identified
- Step 2
Change Lens / baseline
- Step 3
One Big Change implementation
- Step 4
School learning and evidence
- Step 5
Hub placement / formation
- Step 6
Ongoing peer implementation
How a Hub forms in Kenya
Ten founding schools begin together. Each founding school uses Change Lens during the initial phase, so the Kenyan approach is developed from Kenyan practice rather than imported wholesale.
After the initial inception phase, of roughly three months, a founding school may eventually bring up to nine neighbouring schools into its local Hub. That step is subject to the evidence gathered, the agreed programme design and institutional approval.
The founding school therefore becomes more than a participant. It becomes part of the local capability and peer-support infrastructure.
Development architecture
Completes the agreed Change Lens / baseline work.
Forms after inception, subject to evidence and approval.
Learning and implementing together.
This future expansion is a proposed model. It is not yet agreed with AKES, Government or participating institutions.
Counties can convene schools, align priorities and support Hubs. The Hub itself stays school-centred: the community that learns together is the local group of schools, with county and institutional structures able to support and view relevant learning at the appropriate level.
Evidence from LocaeHubs
As LocaeHubs develop in Kenya, participating schools will contribute implementation learning, shared practice and evidence about what is working in different contexts.
