One Big Change Kenya Implementation Programme
The delivery system that turns a shared priority into sustained practice: a three-month inception, three termly workshops, Hub development, train-the-trainer, evidence and recognition.
Know the school before the first session begins
Each participating school completes the Change Lens before the implementation programme is finalised. This helps the programme respond to the school's real context rather than delivering the same solution everywhere.
Three-month inception and co-design
One Big Change Kenya is developing an implementation partnership designed to support government, schools and education institutions in strengthening CBE in practice.
The first three months allow the Advisory Committee, founding schools, experts and universities to:
- Understand the ten school contexts
- Agree the most urgent implementation challenges
- Complete individual Change Lens assessments and baselines
- Identify common and local barriers
- Adapt the delivery model
- Map initial resource gaps
- Refine the three-workshop programme
Ten founding schools
Ten founding schools, drawn from strategically selected counties representing different education contexts, form one national learning cohort during inception.
County names are not published until selection is confirmed.
Understand, strengthen, sustain
One workshop per school term, building consistent practice and peer learning across the cohort.
Understand
Interpret the national priority, examine Change Lens findings, define the school's One Big Change, and create an implementation plan.
Strengthen
Share progress, test the approach, identify barriers, learn from other schools, and access targeted support.
Sustain
Review evidence, embed successful practice, develop internal trainers, and plan sustainability.

Hub development
After inception, each founding school begins bringing together up to nine additional schools. Each founding school becomes the centre of a local implementation Hub.
- Founding schools become Lead Schools
- Best practice moves between schools
- Resources can be shared or coordinated
- Local implementation capability grows
Train-the-trainer
The end goal is not to keep bringing external experts in. It is to build Kenyan capability:
- School-based implementation champions
- Lead School facilitators
- Future Kenyan experts
- Permanent peer-support communities
Evidence and university learning
Universities co-design the research, evaluate implementation and publish findings openly. Success is measured through sustained practice improvement, not workshop attendance.
LocaeAwards and LocaeFest
Contribution and progress are recognised through LocaeAwards, and the cohort convenes at LocaeFest to share learning, celebrate practice and plan the year ahead.
Year 2 sustainability
Following evaluation, additional Hubs are established, the national learning network strengthens, and successful practice is prepared for wider adoption.
