Why LocaeRise

Schools should not solve difficult challenges alone.

LocaeRise was founded on a simple conviction: schools are asked to deliver ambitious change, but too often they are left to do it alone, disconnected from the expertise, resources and evidence that could help.

One Big Change Kenya brings the village together: schools, public institutions, universities, experts, partners and communities, each contributing their part so that practice becomes consistent, evidence becomes rigorous, and local capability grows.

This is an implementation movement, not another programme. Kenya has designed the change. One Big Change helps schools deliver it, together.

What LocaeRise Brings

Ten years of learning. One clear purpose.

Ten years' experience in education
Practical understanding of schools
UK development and trialling of key components
Experience connecting schools, experts, universities and partners
A codesign model rather than a top down programme
A Kenyan-led team with a long term commitment to Kenya

We do not overclaim that the entire model has already been proven. We are proving it now, in Kenya, with Kenyan partners.

Lessons shaping the model

What our work has taught us so far.

Change is stronger when practitioners help design it.

Programmes are more relevant when educators shape the questions, tools and implementation journey from the beginning.

One-off training rarely changes a whole system.

People need time, practical support, peer learning and repeated opportunities to apply and strengthen new approaches.

Evidence should help people improve, not merely prove that activity happened.

The strongest evaluation creates feedback while implementation is still taking place.

Our values

What guides our work

The principles that shape every decision we make.

Kenyan-led

Designed and directed by Kenyan educators, institutions and communities.

Co-designed

Built with schools and partners, not delivered to them.

Evidence-driven

Every decision is informed by what is working, measured honestly.

Implementation before activity

We prioritise sustained practice over one-off events.

Local capability before dependency

We build capacity that remains when we step back.

Resources directed by need

Support goes where schools and Hubs identify it matters most.

Different roles, shared responsibility

Schools, experts, partners and communities each own part of the change.
